5. Diagnosis

Diagnosis is usually clinical and based on visual inspection of the tonsils. In rare cases, imaging (CT scan) may detect larger or deeply embedded tonsilloliths.

6.1 Conservative Treatment

  • Good oral hygiene
  • Saltwater gargles
  • Hydration
  • Mechanical removal (gentle)

6.2 Medical Intervention

  • Antibiotics if associated infection exists
  • Laser cryptolysis or coblation in recurrent cases
